Sentinel Asia activities are introduced on the website of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

The activities of “Sentinel Asia,” for which JAXA serves as the secretariat, are introduced on the website that introduces organizations contributing to “Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction 2015-2030” coordinated by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

The Sentinel Asia is an international collaboration project that aims to contribute to disaster management in the Asia Pacific region by utilizing space-based technologies, and is currently managed by JAXA as the executive secretariat with 111 member organizations.

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction 2015-2030 is an international framework adopted at the Third United Nations World Conference on Disaster Reduction held in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture in March 2015. The main purpose is to establish an international framework for disaster management for the next 15 years, and targets and indicators to be achieved to prevent and reduce disaster risks were agreed upon at the national level. Of the four priorities for actions to achieve the targets, Sentinel Asia is contributing specifically to “Priority 1: Understanding disaster risk” and “Priority 4: Enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to ‘Build Back Better’ in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
