■GHG measurements from space
Date: 2 December, 14:20-14:50 (UTC+4)
Venue: Space Pavilion, Technology and Innovation Hub, EXPO Dubai – Green Zone
Overview:
The session will review the efforts of both public and private organsations to measure the main GHGs from space, and explain efforts such as International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) which seek to convert this information into action to reduce emissions in collaboration with key industries.
Speaker:
- Osamu Ochiai, JAXA/ Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS)
- David Crisp, Crisp Spectra LLC/CEOS
- Yana Gevorgyan, Group on Earth Observations (GEO)
- Steve Hamburg, IMEO
- Jean-Francois Gauthier, GHGSat
Organizer: CEOS, GEO and IMEO

■Enhancing forest monitoring and management through innovative satellite solutions – to accelerate NDC implementation through REDD+
Date: 4 December, 13:00-14:00 (UTC+4)
Venue: Space Pavilion, Technology and Innovation Hub, EXPO Dubai – Green Zone
Overview:
This side event will focus on how these countries are monitoring forests using satellite images in forest managements. Presenters include representatives from governments, international organizations and academic institutes and will share practical information that will serve to create a sound knowledge base for better forest monitoring and management, and for contributing to the global mitigation efforts.
Speaker:
- Hiroshi Yamakawa, JAXA

Organizer: JAXA and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

■Monitoring Methane from Space: Towards an Internationally Recognised Standard
Date: 4 December, 14:30-16:00 (UTC+4)
Venue: Space Pavilion, Technology and Innovation Hub, EXPO Dubai – Green Zone
Overview:
This event will share and discuss current activities and the way forward on internationally recognised methane tandards for effective climate action based on the trends of methane measurement from space including by private companies. Panelists include space agency officials, leading scientists and satellite providers.

Date: 6 December, 11:30-13:00 (UTC+4)
Venue: SE Room 6 (123 pax), EXPO Dubai – Blue Zone
Overview:
By sharing and discussing best practices and lessons learned from countries, that have successfully introduced satellite technology for their national needs in GHG inventory  among participants, this side event will promote the introduction of satellites in other countries and regions and contribute to improving the efficiency of inventory preparation.

■Improving disaster risk knowledge and climate resilience with innovation and space technology: UNFCCC TEC and GEO join forces to support Early Warnings for All
Date: 6 December, 14:00-14:30 (UTC+4)
Venue: Space Pavilion, Technology and Innovation Hub, EXPO Dubai – Green Zone
Overview:
Experts from the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Group on Earth Observations (GEO) highlight the role of space technologies and satellite imageries in improving disaster risk management and climate resilience with country perspectives from small island developing states. The talk will offer insights from ongoing collaboration of the UNFCCC TEC and GEO under Early Warnings for All (EW4All), aimed at showcasing tools and technologies that could assist developing countries in formulating scientifically-sound and evidence-based climate policies, plans and funding proposals and implementing them on the ground.
